Underwater Photography Training

Having the correct skills and knowledge is more important in underwater photography than the equipment you are using.

We run underwater photography courses with a greater level of information and detail than traditional courses offered by most training agencies. As well as learning about camera operation and housing care, we'll teach you how to compose your images, light your pictures, handle workflow and even give you ideas on things to do with your finished pictures. Most of all we'll give you the hints and tips which you rarely get told but will make your underwater photography easier and your pictures better.

In addition to complete courses we can give one to one tuition via Zoom for £25/hour. These sessions can be tailored to your needs and can include underwater photography advice, general photography tuition and editing instruction.

Online Underwater

Photography Courses

We currently offer separate online underwater photography courses aimed specifically at users of Olympus/OM System TG cameras, compact cameras and mirrorless cameras. Each course includes over 15 hours of video that is a mixture of recordings from the most recent live courses that have been run via Zoom along with addition pre-recorded material and supplementary information. You can choose to access a recorded course with no live support (£100) or a recorded course with two hours of one to one Zoom session (£140). Currently we aren’t running any more live courses via Zoom but this may change depending on demand.

Course material covers: housings and their care, how scuba diving technique impacts on your photography and how photography can impact on your diving and safety, the logistics of underwater photography, camera features, exposure and settings, colour and lighting, both artificial and natural, composition, macro and close-up techniques, wide angle techniques, photographing marine life including the ethics of underwater photography, workflow, ideas of what to do with your images, a look at why pictures go wrong and advice on how to improve further as a photographer.

Anyone who takes an online course or in person workshop with us gets a discount to the cost of a number of books on underwater photography that we sell.

Access to course recordings are now for the lifetime of the course based on the ongoing production and popularity of each type of camera. The actual course material will updated, improved and added to regularly and once you have paid for access you will continue to benefit from the improvements made.

Online Editing Courses

We also run online photo editing courses using Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. We'll show you from the essentials of organising and editing pictures in Lightroom to more advanced techniques using some features of Photoshop . These courses are suitable for land or underwater photography and are run over 8 live sessions. As with the UWP courses you can opt to take the live sessions (£100), recordings only (£70) or recordings with one to one time (£100).

Currently access to recordings are only guaranteed for 6 months. But this may change to life time access as with the UWP courses. When that happens all previous course students will receive lifetime access.

Dive Centres and Sub Aqua Clubs

Talks and Workshops For Diving Clubs

As well as running our own courses and workshops we give talks on underwater photography to scuba diving clubs and photography societies around the UK.

We can run underwater photography and photo editing workshops in conjunction with clubs and dive centres around the UK. For this we charge a fee and expenses with all additional profits going to the host organisation. This can be a good way for a club to boost its funds relatively easily while offering members something different from the usual courses and events.

We are happy to work with clubs and centres affiliated to any training organisation.
